With his award-winning paintings Cody DeLong has earned a national reputation, and has been considered one of the premier oil painters in Jerome Arizona, since 1998, where he maintains his working public studio/gallery. In addition to executing alluring landscape and still life pieces, DeLong is also an award winning instructor, teaching painting classes and workshops. This has made him a valuable resource for artists looking to expand their techniques, and collectors who value quality of skill and vision.
The Cody DeLong Studio is conveniently located in the heart of Jerome Arizona, in a historic building; this was originally a Studebaker dealership during the town’s mining days. There is even one of the original gas pumps that can be seen in front of the gallery. Typically DeLong can be found either teaching or painting from this studio 4 or 5 days a week, usually Wednesday through Saturday.
Cody DeLong spends the remainder of his time doing Plein Air work, and participates in several Plein Air events each year. He was one of only twenty artists from across the country that were invited to the Inaugural Grand Canyon event back in 2009. In the same Grand Canyon event in 2010, he won first place out of thirty artists, and in 2012 was the top selling artist. His captivating landscape paintings often sell out at events, as the demand for his work continues to rise.
DeLong has been quoted saying;
"To paint well requires more than just good technique, and it's more than just an emotional response to nature's beauty. It's also about knowledge, experience and a concerted sustained effort toward personal growth and insight. Learning to paint is largely about learning to 'see' with greater sensitivity and expressing those ideas in a painterly way".
This is evident in his canvases, which capture the light and color of the west in a dramatic fashion. Fortunately, his timeless landscape paintings are not limited to those who can visit his local art gallery in Jerome Arizona. How do I commission a painting?
I accept several commissions each year. Many people have a classic car or truck, want their home or property immortalized on canvas, or have a great vacation photo or special occasion to commemorate. I don't do babies, it has to be something I'm interested in and I'll need some good photo references. If the subject is within driving range, I like to see it firsthand and take my own photos, but usually I can work from your photos.
The next step after we have discussed your idea via phone, email or in person, is to explore/exchange (email) photos. After we have agreed on a photo we both think would make a good painting, and the size of the canvas that will work best in your home, I will require a deposit of 50% to begin the painting. Price depends on size, subject, framing, shipping etc. We will work out all the details before I begin, so there are no surprises and it's a great experience for both of us.
Communication is key, so I always ask lots of questions before I begin. I believe this is the reason all of my commissions have been successful and I have many satisfied collectors.
